Unix Timestamp Converter
Turn epoch seconds into real dates, and dates into epoch time.
How to use the Unix Timestamp Converter
- The current Unix time ticks at the top; click Copy to grab it in seconds or milliseconds.
- Paste a timestamp on the left. Seconds, milliseconds and microseconds are detected automatically.
- Read the date in UTC, your local time, ISO 8601 and as a relative time like "3 days ago".
- To go the other way, pick a date, time and time zone on the right and copy the resulting timestamp.
About this tool
Unix time counts the seconds that have passed since 00:00:00 UTC on 1 January 1970, ignoring leap seconds. Because it is a single number with no time zone attached, it is how databases, log files, APIs and programming languages usually store moments in time. The catch is that 1767225600 means nothing to a human reader. This converter translates it instantly in both directions.
Paste any timestamp and the tool works out whether it is in seconds (10 digits today), milliseconds (13 digits, as used by JavaScript and Java) or microseconds (16 digits, common in Python and PostgreSQL). You see the moment in UTC, in your own time zone, as an ISO 8601 string, as a relative phrase and with its day of the week. Going the other way, choose a wall-clock date and time in any major time zone, and daylight saving time is applied correctly.
Tip: 32-bit systems that store Unix time as a signed integer overflow on 19 January 2038 at 03:14:07 UTC. Try 2147483647 to see the exact moment.
Frequently asked questions
Does this converter send anything to a server?
No. All conversions use your browser's built-in date and time-zone data. Nothing you enter leaves your device.
How do I know if my timestamp is in seconds or milliseconds?
Current timestamps in seconds have 10 digits; in milliseconds they have 13. The tool detects this automatically, and you can override it with the unit menu.
Is Unix time the same everywhere in the world?
Yes. A Unix timestamp identifies one instant, regardless of time zone. Only the way it is displayed as a local date and time differs.
Can I convert dates before 1970?
Yes. Dates before the epoch are simply negative numbers, for example -86400 is 31 December 1969 at 00:00 UTC.
Why is my local time off by an hour?
Usually daylight saving time. The converter uses your device's time-zone rules, so check that your computer is set to the correct zone.
