Decode QR codes from images or your camera and see what is inside first.
How to use the QR Code Scanner
- Drop an image, click to choose one, or paste a screenshot with Ctrl/⌘ + V.
- Or switch to Camera and point it at a QR code.
- Read the decoded content. Wi-Fi details, contacts and links are shown as clear fields.
- Copy the text, or press Open link only when you trust the address.
About this tool
QR codes hide their content until you scan them, which is exactly why they are popular with scammers: a sticker over a parking meter or a code in an email can point anywhere. This scanner decodes the code and shows you the full content first. Links are displayed as plain text with the domain pulled out, and nothing opens until you press the button yourself.
It reads codes from screenshots, photos and saved images, including ones you paste straight from the clipboard, which is handy when a QR code arrives on the same phone or computer you would need to scan it with. On devices with a camera, live scanning prefers the rear camera and stops as soon as a code is found. Video frames are analysed in your browser and are never recorded or sent anywhere.
Tip: if a photo will not decode, crop it closer to the code or take it straight on with even light. Very small, blurred or heavily stylised codes are the usual cause of failures.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images or camera feed uploaded?
No. Decoding runs in JavaScript on your device. The camera stream goes only to the page in your browser tab, and it is switched off when you press Stop or a code is found.
Why does it not open links automatically?
Because a QR code can point to a phishing page or a malicious download. Showing the address first lets you check the domain before you decide to visit it.
Can it read Wi-Fi QR codes?
Yes. It shows the network name, security type and password, so you can copy the password or connect manually on a device that cannot scan.
The camera does not start. What can I do?
Allow camera access when your browser asks. Camera access needs a secure (https) page, and another app using the camera can block it. You can always take a photo and drop it here instead.
Does it read barcodes too?
It reads QR codes only. Classic one-dimensional barcodes and other 2D formats like Data Matrix are not supported.
