How to use the Random Name Picker Wheel
- Type or paste the names, one per line.
- Press Spin, click the wheel or hit the space bar.
- The wheel slows down and lands on the winner, which is announced on screen.
- Turn on "Remove winner after spin" to draw several different people in a row.
About this tool
A spinning wheel turns choosing into a small event, which is why teachers use it to call on students, streamers to pick giveaway winners and friends to settle where to eat. Add your entries one per line and each gets an equal slice of the wheel.
Fairness comes first. The winner is chosen before the animation starts using your browser's cryptographic random number generator, the same source used for encryption keys, and the wheel is then steered to land on that slice. Every entry has exactly the same chance, no matter how many times you spin, and the animation cannot be nudged by timing your click.
For a raffle or a team draw, enable "Remove winner after spin" so nobody is picked twice; you can undo a removal from the notice that appears. To give someone extra chances, simply list their name more than once. Your list is saved only in this browser, so it is still there next time.
Frequently asked questions
Is the wheel really random?
Yes. Each spin picks the winner with crypto.getRandomValues using unbiased sampling, so every slice has an equal chance. The animation only shows the result.
How many names can I add?
Up to 500. Beyond about 60 entries the labels get too small to read, but the draw stays just as fair.
Can I give someone more chances?
Add their name several times. Each line is its own slice of the wheel.
Is my list stored or shared?
Your names are saved only in your browser's local storage so you do not have to retype them. They are never uploaded. Clear the list to remove them.
Why is there no sound?
Sound is off by default so the page never surprises anyone. Turn on "Tick sound" for a clicking wheel effect.
