Slug Generator
Turn titles into tidy, readable web addresses, one per line or in bulk.
How to use the Slug Generator
- Type or paste a title. Paste several lines to make a slug for each one.
- The slugs appear on the right instantly, lowercase and joined with hyphens.
- Optionally drop filler words or set a maximum length for shorter addresses.
- Copy the slugs or download them as a text file.

About this tool
A slug is the readable part at the end of a web address, such as /balcony-gardening-guide. Good slugs are short, lowercase, use hyphens between words and contain nothing a browser has to escape, which makes them easier to share, easier to read in search results and less likely to break.
This generator turns any title into that form. Accented letters become their plain versions, special letters like ß and æ get sensible spellings, apostrophes vanish instead of splitting a word in two, and punctuation is removed. Titles in other alphabets keep their letters, since modern browsers display them correctly.
Tip: once a page is published, avoid changing its slug. Links and bookmarks point to the old address, so if you must rename it, set up a redirect from the old slug to the new one.
Frequently asked questions
Should I use hyphens or underscores?
Hyphens. Search engines read a hyphen as a space between words, while an underscore can join the words into one. Underscores are mainly useful for file names and some database keys.
Is it better to remove words like "the" and "of"?
It shortens the address, which helps when titles are long. But keep words that change the meaning: "how-to-cook-rice" reads better than "cook-rice". Try it both ways and pick the clearer one.
What happens to Chinese, Arabic or Cyrillic titles?
Letters from other writing systems are kept as they are, because they cannot be turned into plain Latin letters without a transliteration standard. Browsers show them fine in the address bar.
Does it send my titles anywhere?
No. The slugs are produced by code inside this page, so unpublished titles and product names never leave your device.
