How to use the CSV Viewer & Editor

  1. Drop a CSV file onto the table area, click Open, or paste CSV text.
  2. Click any cell to edit it. Press Enter to move down a row.
  3. Sort by clicking the arrow in a column header, filter with the search box, and add or remove rows and columns.
  4. Copy the result or download it as a .csv file. Your table is also kept in this browser for next time.

About this tool

Spreadsheet apps are overkill when you only need to look inside a CSV export, correct a few values or drop a column before importing it somewhere else, and they have a habit of quietly reformatting dates and long numbers. This editor shows the file as a plain table and keeps every value exactly as text, so what you save is what you typed.

The delimiter is detected automatically, quoted values with commas or line breaks are read correctly, and the header row can be switched on or off. You can sort by any column (numbers sort naturally, so 2 comes before 10), filter rows with a quick search, rename headers, and add or delete rows and columns with an undo for every deletion. Large files stay responsive because rows are shown in batches of 500.

Tip: to change the separator of a file, open it, pick a different delimiter from the menu, and download. The same data is written back with semicolons, tabs or pipes.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. What you type or open is never sent to a server.

Frequently asked questions

Is my CSV file uploaded?

No. The file is read and edited inside your browser. The table is stored only in this browser's local storage so it survives a refresh, and Clear removes it.

How big a file can I open?

Tens of thousands of rows work well. Rows are displayed 500 at a time with a Show more button, while sorting, filtering and export always cover the whole file.

Does sorting change my file?

Yes, sorting reorders the rows, and the download uses the new order. Load the file again if you need the original order back.

Will it change my dates or numbers?

No. Every cell is treated as text, so leading zeros, long IDs and date formats are kept exactly as they were.

Can I open Excel files?

This editor reads CSV, TSV and other delimited text. Convert .xlsx files with the Excel to CSV tool first, then open the result here.
