About this tool
Lorem ipsum is the scrambled Latin that designers have used as stand-in copy for centuries. Because it looks like real writing but cannot be read, people reviewing a layout judge the spacing, type and rhythm instead of getting distracted by the words.
This generator builds each sentence from Latin vocabulary at random, mixing short, medium and long sentences and adding the occasional comma so the text has the uneven texture of genuine prose. Small linking words never start or end a sentence, and no word repeats within a few words of itself, which avoids the obviously machine-made look of simpler generators.
Choose an exact word count when you are filling a space with a strict limit, such as a product card, a meta description or a 50-word bio, so the mock-up shows exactly how the real copy will fit.
Frequently asked questions
What does lorem ipsum mean?
Nothing, deliberately. It comes from a passage by the Roman writer Cicero written in 45 BC, but the words were cut and jumbled long ago so that the text no longer makes sense.
Is lorem ipsum free to use?
Yes. The source text is more than two thousand years old and in the public domain, and the text made here is generated fresh each time, so you can use it anywhere.
Why does my word count come out exact?
In word mode the generator counts every word it writes and shapes the last sentence so the total matches your number, which a word counter will confirm.
Does this page need an internet connection?
Not once it has loaded. The text is generated inside your browser and nothing you set here is sent anywhere.
